My name is Grant Larcom. I’m a pianist and music student from Tennessee working towards my degree in piano. I started playing the piano at 5 years old and have been hooked ever since. My first semester of college, I was introduced to jazz for the first time, and I have studied the art of jazz piano since.
I remember being thrown into a big band as a freshman in college, having to read chord charts and pieces with complicated chord voicings, with little guidance. Overtime, I slowly began to get the hang of the idea of comping in the background, without being right in the spotlight. I learned methods of improvisation and how to analyze standards for tone centers and scales. I soon after found a job as a pianist for a local church, and from there my jazz chops blossomed. I now arrange my own offertories, almost always in a smooth or delicate jazz setting. And now, I have set out to put these arrangements onto paper, and offer them to church musicians all around the world. Please feel free to browse my selection of
free or premium arrangements of hymn favorites!
I uncovered my passion for music during my first piano lesson at five years old. From that point on, I was involved in choirs, community music groups, and composition. I continue this musically-active and openminded lifestyle to this day.
I found a pianist job at a local church and knew it would be the perfect creative outlet for my jazz hymn arrangements. Not only have I become a better musician, but I have become a better Christian as well.
I often find that my best playing comes out of the practice room, and not my performances. It’s important to be dynamic, creative, and able to take risks in a performance so that you perform at your highest capacity, as if you are in the practice room.
